Some markets suffer from nonexistent, poorly defined or ambiguous resolution modalities, causing drama and trouble.
In the market creation process, there currently is an optional field for context or details. There is no direct incentive for the creator to provide any criteria for resolution.
Resolution criteria:
Resolves Yes if there is a mandatory textfield (or similar) on the market creation screen, with the purpose of making the creator provide criteria for resolution
Resolves Yes if an existing textfield is extended or altered for the purpose of making it mandatory for the creator to provide criteria for resolution
Resolves Yes if the market creation process is altered in any way in order to make it mandatory for the creator to provide criteria for resolution
Needs to affect all users, not just new users
Needs to affect all question tiers
Something along the lines of "Please provide criteria" in an optional textfield does not suffice, it needs to be mandatory
It doesn't matter whether the exact phrases "resolution" and/or "criteria" are used, as long as the effect is sufficiently close to asking the creator for their resolution criteria
There are many ways the above criteria might miss the market's intent due to technicalities, thus: This will resolve to the market's intent according to my best judgement
The change must be in effect on the close date, this won't resolve early
Update 2026-03-07: This is about whether Manifold makes the creator provide sufficiently binding criteria.
If a blank description is automatically filled with criteria by AI, this resolves No.
If Manifold tells the creator to provide criteria and offers "Generate by AI" and the creator needs to review the criteria, this resolves Yes, as long as those AI generated resolution criteria are treated just like creator-generated criteria.
If Manifold offers a "Generate by AI" which the creator needs to review, but those criteria sometimes get ignored or regularly revised, as they are "merely AI generated", I'll use my best judgement and might resolve to PROB.
Trying to narrow down the spirit: Manifold needs to change something, which needs to lead to the creator taking additional action, which needs to result in markets with resolution criteria that get treated just like any other market with resolution criteria.
@EvanDaniel Good question. I'll have ti think about this. First instinct: That wasn't the intent of the market.
@EvanDaniel @traders Updated the resolution criteria regarding AI generated criteria and clarified the spirit of the market.
